Randall Aitchison, horn
Randall Aitchison is Coordinator of Patient Satisfaction at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. As a horn player, he performs in area church and community ensembles. He resides with his wife and son (also a horn player) in University Heights.
Ken Ausman, tuba/trombone
Ken Ausman was born and raised in Sterling, Il. He studied Music Education and Tuba Performance at The University of Iowa from 1993 to 1999. He has been teaching private brass lessons at West Music in Coralville since 1998. He also works at the Coralville Hy-Vee as a Product Specialist and for I.T.
Solutions as an Office Manager.
Ed Kottick, trombone/euphonium
Ed Kottick was brought up in Brooklyn, NY, where he was a trombone student of Simon
Karasick. He played in New York’s
National Training Orchestra under Leon Barzin while still a student at
NYU. Subsequently, he was a member
of the Gershwin Concert Orchestra under Loren Maezel, the New Orleans
Philharmonic under Alexander Hilsberg, and the New Orleans Opera Orchestra
under Renato Cellini. He
free-lanced in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, while working on his Ph.D. in
musicology, but abandoned the trombone in the early 1960s, when he began his
academic teaching career. He
returned to the instrument in 2007.
During his 45 trombone-less years he continued to make music as a
recorderist and a conductor.
Dennis Pedde, trumpet
Dennis Pedde holds Bachelor and Master of
Music degrees in Trumpet Performance from the American Conservatory of Music in
Chicago, and a Master of Church Music degree with a major in Music Theory from
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He also completed all Recitals and Course
work toward a Doctoral degree in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy at
the University of Iowa. He has
studied Trumpet with Arnold Jacobs and William Scarlett, both formerly of the
Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Douglas Smith and Jerry Amend in Louisville, KY: and
with David Greenhoe at The University of
Iowa. He teaches at Central
College in Pella, IA, Kirkwood Community College, and his private studio. He plays principal trumpet with the
Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra and the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band.
Scott Vogelgesang, trumpet
Scott
Vogelgesang is a native of the Twin Cities. Scott moved to
Iowa City in 1995 from Washington DC after a stint in the US Army. He studied trumpet and played in the
jazz band, concert band, subbed in the orchestra, a jazz quintet and played
polka gigs on the weekends at the University of Minnesota in Duluth. Scott works at the University of Iowa
and loves to play his trumpet, flugelhorn, and piccolo trumpet in whatever
musical venues
will have him.
